Libray General Rules

  1. All library users are supposed to deposit their personal belongings such as personal books, bags, files etc. at the property counter while entering the library. NIT Nagaland Central Library will not hold any responsibility for any loss or damage to the belongings.
  2. Use of mobile phones, smoking, refreshment or food items of any kind inside the library is not allowed and strictly prohibited.
  3. All library users should maintain pin drop silence and peace inside the Central Library.
  4. No books or other reading materials will be issued without Identity card.
  5. While Issuing, borrower should sign on the 'Book Transaction Record Register' and while returning, ensure that the 'Returned Process' is complete by library person.
  6. Transactions through proxy will not be allowed.
  7. All the issued books must be returned on or before the due date so as to avoid overdue charges and make them available for use by other members as well.
  8. Users are supposed to leave the book on the nearest table whenever they take the books from the open shelves so as to avoid misplacement of books.
  9. Users should not fold over, deface, mark, cut, mutilate or damage library resources in any way and should be protected from RAIN, DUST, etc. If anyone is found doing so, he/she will be charged the full replacement cost of the resource.
  10. Any type of "Copy Right" violation is not allowed inside the Library.
  11. No visitor or guest is permitted to use the Library without the prior permission of the Librarian / Library in charge. He / She is required to produce a proper introduction letter / ID from the concerned Institution/Organization.
  12. No photograph of the Library shall be taken without the prior permission of the Librarian/Library in charge.
  13. All students are advised to come to the Library in uniform/dress as they are in the classrooms.
  14. The loss of membership card should be reported in written to the Librarian / Library in charge immediately. Duplicate membership card can be issued after paying the penalty fee of Rs. 300.00 in the form of Demand Draft favoring Director, NIT Nagaland, Chumukedima, Dimapur.
  15. After completion of course or leaving the Institute, the member of library must submit the library property, if it is issued or lying with member, to the NIT Nagaland Central Library and member must obtain a "Library Clearance" certificate from the NIT Nagaland Central Library.

Library Membership

All members of NIT Nagaland are the user community of NIT Nagaland Central Library. UG/PG Students, Research Scholars, Faculty, Administrative Office and Staff of the Institute are admitted as members of the Central Library. The number of books that may be borrowed by Faculty / Student / Staff and the period of loan are mentioned below:

Conditions of Issued Books

  1. The Librarian/Library in charge reserves the right to recall any issued book even prior to the due date of return.
  2. Reference books/documents like Dictionary, Encyclopedia, Year Books, Journals (Loose & Bound), Theses, Project Reports etc will not be issued out.
  3. Single Copy books are treated as Reference Copy.
  4. The borrower is required to pay the cost of the lost books along with 20% additional amount of the printed price of the book.

Overdue Charges

Members should return Library books before the due date, failing which an overdue charge of Rs. 1.00/- per day per book shall be levied.

Requisition Procedure for Books and Journals

Central Library of NIT Nagaland may request to all faculties / HOD's of the Institute for the requisition of books and journals in the prescribed format (form available at the end of page / webpage), duly signed and forwarded by the HOD. As and when the central library receives the requisition of books, the duplicity of their title is checked. The book order is placed after the approval of Director.

Photocopy, Print and Scan Facility

Photocopy, Printing and Scanning shall be done in the library in limited quantity at the rate of Rs.0.30/- only. This facility is available for library books and CDs only to the bonafide members of the Library.
